Domain Rating vs. Domain Authority
Searching for a domain authority checker? Website authority is a general SEO concept, while Domain Authority (DA) is a specific metric from Moz. This tool reports Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR). Both use a 100-point scale, but their calculations differ, so a DR of 40 is not equivalent to a DA of 40.
Keep the provider consistent when comparing websites or tracking change. This checker returns a domain-level DR score; it does not include page-level URL Rating, a backlink list or a Moz DA score.
What is a good DR score?
A useful benchmark is the range for comparable websites in your niche. There is no universal passing score. DR uses a logarithmic scale, so gaining ten points near the top is harder than gaining ten near the bottom. A high score does not guarantee rankings, relevant traffic or AI recommendations.
How to improve website authority

What is website authority?
Website authority describes the relative strength of a website. This checker reports Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR), which measures backlink profile strength on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100.
What is a good Domain Rating?
Compare your score with websites in the same market. There is no universal good score. Because the scale is logarithmic, a ten-point increase is harder at the top of the scale than at the bottom.
Is Domain Rating the same as Domain Authority?
No. Domain Rating is an Ahrefs metric. Domain Authority (DA) is a separate metric developed by Moz. Their scores use different calculations and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Does this check a domain or an individual page?
This tool checks Domain Rating for the website domain. Pasting a page URL does not produce a page-level authority score. It does not return Ahrefs URL Rating (UR), Moz Domain Authority (DA), backlink counts or organic traffic.
Why might my Domain Rating change?
Ahrefs updates its backlink index, and the relative strength of domains can change over time. A changed score alone does not prove that your traffic or search rankings changed. Compare results from the same provider and check the retrieval time, since this tool caches ratings for up to 24 hours.
Does a high DR mean AI tools recommend my business?
DR measures backlink strength. It does not measure whether ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews mention your brand. Use our free AEO report to check your AI search visibility separately.
