Every question is run against ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews during the measurement window, producing 1,196 AI-generated answers. Answers are parsed for firm mentions using a maintained entity table per firm covering names, d/b/a brands and domains. Share of voice is a firm's mentions divided by all tracked firm mentions. Appearance rate is the share of questions naming the firm at least once. Exact prompt strings are private to prevent firms optimizing for the test instead of the market; journalists can review the full methodology under NDA on request. Domain Rating by Ahrefs and monthly organic traffic from DataForSEO are shown as context and never used in the ranking.

Some eligible firms are clients of AEO Engine. Client relationships never affect measurement or rank, and every client firm is tagged on the board. The fastest way to test that claim is the methodology itself.

What is the Answer Index?

A monthly editorial measurement of 100 eligible family law firms. Each edition asks four AI engines 300 real questions and measures which firms the 1,196 answers actually name.

How is a firm's rank decided?

Firms with positive share of voice are ranked by their mentions divided by all firm mentions. Ties break on appearance rate, then engine coverage. Firms with zero measured mentions are tied at 0.0% and unranked.

Can a firm pay to be ranked?

No. Rankings are never for sale, there are no sponsors, and AEO Engine clients are labeled wherever they appear and measured identically to every other firm.

Why is my firm not listed?

Each edition measures an eligible universe of 100 firms selected on the public criteria in the methodology. Firms outside the universe can request consideration for a future edition through the firm lookup.

How can a firm improve before the next edition?

AI assistants recommend firms with strong topical content, site authority and consistent third-party mentions. The next measurement window is shown at the top of this page. AEO Engine offers a detailed firm report covering the specific gaps.
